Extra credit opportunity

Our Milkweed bug habitats need sticks!! Bring in some sticks, about as long as from your wrist to your elbow (unless you have really long arms)... Not too skinny, but not to thick (no tree limbs please!). You can earn 2 points per stick, up to 10 points.

Monday Homework

You got a review packet today for the Planetary Science Unit Test on FRIDAY... the review is 9 pages long... and is due on THURSDAY... so if you do about 3 pages a night... you should be done by Thursday.

I will NOT be in class tomorrow... you will be watching the last episode of "Cosmic Collisions"... there will be a QUIZ on WEDNESDAY.

You may use the "Planetary Sciences" green books during the movie to work on your review. You will also have time in class on WEDNESDAY while groups take turns with the "Phases of the Moon" activities to use the books and to work on the review.

I will also host an ONLINE REVIEW on THURSDAY at 7pm. Instructions will be handed out on THURSDAY IN CLASS about how to join the review.

Please be on your best behavior for the substitute tomorrow, you WILL still be getting a daily behavior grade.

Wednesday Homework

Read the article "Space Probes".

On the front, the chart compares different parts of the human body to parts of a spacecraft. You need to complete the chart by filling in the parts of a spacecraft that would be similar to the human body part on the left.

There are 3 "Thinking Questions" on the last page. These should be answered on a separate sheet of paper.

You will get ALL the work you have turned in back tomorrow. There are also quite a few papers in the "No Name" folder... any missing work that you'd like to make-up is due FRIDAY IN CLASS (yes, I am giving you an extra night).

Term 3 ends on Friday.

Monday Homework

1. If you did NOT give your presentation today, you MUST be prepared to give it tomorrow. If you are called on and have nothing to present, you will get a 0.

2. Any and all make-up work you want to try and get credit for is DUE NO LATER THAN 2PM ON THURSDAY. You make ONLY make up HOMEWORK... classwork is due in class, and cannot be made up, unless you were ABSENT.

3. If you need to make up a LAB... come see me ASAP to schedule a time to come in and complete the lab.

February Vacation Projects

Hope everyone is already enjoying their break!!

Don't forget to finish you "Solar System Projects"

You need to answer the Who/What/When/Where/Why/How questions that apply to your topic.

You need to have some sort of visual aid... PowerPoint, poster, demo activity, 3-D model... if you aren't sure about your idea, email me first to get approval.

You (and your partner) will be responsible for teaching a 5-minute "mini-lesson" to your class about your topic. It can be longer, but it needs to be AT LEAST 5 minutes.

You can create worksheets, quizzes, any sort of activity if you want for your classmates to do during your lesson.

IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE TOPIC YOU CHOSE, EMAIL ME WITH YOUR NEW TOPIC IDEA

I will be available via email for the whole vacation, so if you have questions... please ask :)

Thursday Homework

Today you selected a topic for your February Break Project. You also started doing some research...

Tomorrow I will hand out the rubric that I will be using to grade the projects and presentations.

This is NOT a big project... You just need to be able to teach a 5 minute mini-lesson on your topic when you come back from break.

You need a VISUAL AID OF SOME KIND... you CAN make worksheets, notes, activities... whatever you think will help your classmates understand your topic.

These are DUE ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 28... NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED

Weekend Homework

Sorry I didn't post this sooner...

P2: Your assignment is to read the 2 articles I left with Ms. Lawrence. You also need to complete the diagram and then write a response to the question, "Why is the space race still important today?" Remember that you must have AT LEAST 5 things in each section of the diagram. And that your response needs to be AT LEAST half a page long.

P3: You're assignment is to use the moon phase data that I provided you, and maybe some outside research, to answer the 3 questions and then create some sort of model or visual of the phases of the moon. (like flip book, cartoon strip... etc)

In class today, you came up with a claim, you gave evidence to support it, and then you gave reasons why your evidence supported the claim.

NOW you have another student's claim. Read it, consider the evidence, and listen to their reasoning. Do you think they proved or supported their claim?

Weekend Homework: P3

P3, since we got a little further in your class, here are the instructions for your homework.

1. Find a picture of Massachusetts, like this one.
2. Find out how big the state of Massachusetts is (google, "how big is Massachusetts).
3. Make sure the measurements are in KILOMETERS (you can find a unit converter here)
4. Come up with the scale for your picture of Massachusetts.
5. Pick ONE of the lunar features you measured and found the diameter of in class.
6. Draw the lunar feature on the picture of Massachusetts, make sure you use the same scale for both the state and the lunar feature.

Based on what we were able to get through in class, I have changed the homework assignment for your class.

1. Find out how big the state of Massachusetts is (google "how big is Massachusetts).

4. Based on how big Massachusetts REALLY is... figure out the SCALE of the picture you choose.
5. Below are the REAL diameters of 3 lunar craters and 3 maria, choose ONE, and draw it on Massachusetts, using the same scale (so you can see how big the crater is vs how big MA is).
